If you’re not ready to make a career move, don’t worry, you can still get a piece of the profit. How? If you already dabble in the stock market world, chances are you have noticed cannabis stocks are becoming increasingly popular.

As if, investing in the stock market isn’t daunting itself, investing in an emerging market, is equally as intimidating. Luckily, The BRICC Foundry was able to connect with Emerald Sparks, a financial strategist + entrepreneur.

Emerald gave us the scoop on why women should have different financial strategies than men, and, also hooked us up with a front row tickets to her online course How to Invest in Marijuana Stocks 101 on March 24th 2:00p-4:30p EST.

BRICC: Tell me about your finance business.

Emerald: My business has two components:

  1. Personal Finance: I help people solve their misconceptions about money through budget planning, credit restoration, and financial planning.

  2. Business Finance: I help entrepreneurs create transparency within their business finances, pay themselves a salary, and adequately manage their profits & cash flow.

I have been in business for three years and support clients from California to Florida! I run my business virtually.

BRICC: Why is it important for women to be proactive in financial planning?

Emerald: We put our finances on the backburner and do everything else and then we see our finances spiral out of control. Alternatively, better yet, we don’t pay attention to the financial part of our household, which is not smart. We definitely need an understanding and to be an extra pair of eyes to ensure everything is on course and running well.

Take out the embarrassment of asking the needed questions. You don’t know what you don’t know. Talk to a fiduciary financial professional. Never rely on a man to secure your financial future. You have to understand how financial products are set up. I have heard too many stories about women not receiving insurance benefits and retirement funds because their husbands did not set it up properly, and now their families have to struggle.

Finances are necessary, and not understanding the concepts of money is no longer an excuse not to have your financial house in order. It is imperative as a woman who takes charge of the household, her children, and her social life to take control of her finances. We are reliable and competent beings, and we should not let our funds be the boss of us, but instead, us telling our funds what to do! Be a boss, a financial boss.

BRICC: Should a women’s financial + investment strategy look differently than our male counterparts?

Emerald: Yes, it should look differently.

  1. Women typically, make less money in their careers than men, one because women do not often negotiate their salaries.

  2. Women live longer than men, which means we have to project our retirement for more years than men.

  3. Women are less inclined to invest AT ALL and have a lower risk tolerance.

BRICC: Why is investing in the cannabis industry a strategic move?

Emerald: The industry is growing and changing every day! It’s like investing in any startup; you have to get in on the ground floor. Companies are spending BIG money into research, resources, products. Where it is legal, people are creating entire lifestyles around it. Having your piece of the pie would be smart.
